The Green Pastures

Lying in the green pastures while looking to the Good Shepherd

I decided to pair this post with the lyrics of a song called “So Will I”, this song is one of the most well-written songs in my opinion. I hope it reveals to you what it has already revealed to me. I hope to help in doing that. It shows the beauty and obedience of creation, the obedience of Jesus, and the call for us to imitate them.

Creation Testifies

“For if everything exists to lift You high, so will I” So Will I – Benjamin William Hastings

“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. All of nature reveals God, so should we” Psalms 19:1

This song starts with so beautifully illustrating nature and how every part, whether big or small, was created by God with amazing detail. There is a line, “Every painted sky, a canvas of Your grace”. Think of the most beautiful sunrise or sunset, it’s never the same and yet each has its own beauty. Let each time you see that beauty in nature bring you to the awe of God. He created everything with great intentionality for the purpose that all of it may point to Him. If we can see how nature is all made to lift the name of God in everything, then as we are also created by Him, we must raise His name in everything we do, whether in big or small ways. If you ever need a reminder, just look to what God has made.

Creation Obeys

“If creation still obeys You, so will I” So Will I – Benjamin William Hastings

“They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him” Mark 4:41

If God created everything to lift up His name and we see that they do. That means everything obeys Him as well. One of my favorite lines from this song that I did not include is “If the wind goes where you send it, so will I”. Too often when God calls someone to go, there is hesitancy, that should not be the case. The wind does not question whether it should go, it just does as God called. In Mark 4, the wind and waves do not command themselves, they are at the will of Jesus. As soon as Jesus calls them to be still, they obey. We should have the same reaction when God calls us to something, jump to obey with no hesitation. We can do that when we recognize where we rank in relation to God. As John the Baptist says, we are not worthy to touch the sandals of Jesus. We must keep the same reverence and keep God firmly above all, and most important, firmly above us.

Christ Surrendered

“And if You gave Your life to love them, so will I, like You would again a hundred billion times” So Will I – Benjamin William Hastings

“And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross!” Philippians 2:8

Not only does all of creation point to God through obedience, but so does His Son Jesus Christ. Jesus showed His obedience in going to the cross for a brutal and painful death. He could have stopped it in a second, yet He endured for you and me, that we may be able to be saved and enter into a relationship with God. Jesus should always be our primary example in everything, so we should follow in His great obedience in everything we do. The lyric for this section shows the obedience we should have. We are supposed live like Jesus in all we do. I believe Jesus would gladly surrender His life for God’s will every chance He could, we must do the same. When you need encouragement to do that, look to nature in how it all lifts God’s name in obedience, look also to Jesus and His life of surrender and obedience. Do not hesitate to lift the name of God and obey Him
